The Education Standing Committee (ESC) has 5 members and a number of subcommittee members to help with their various responsibilities and initiatives. The key responsibility of the ESC is to assess and then bring forward proposals for the appropriate utilization of surplus conference proceeds. For 2017/18 this aspect has been put on hold while IPEIA goes through a major re-branding initiative and other significant efforts to revitalize the annual conference.
In the meantime the ESC has continued with other initiatives that are in line with its mandate to cultivate and grow our relationships and initiatives with educational institutions and education, training and competency in general when it relates to Pressure Equipment Safety, Inspection and Integrity Management.
Key among these is the work planned to update the content of it’s Codes and Regulations seminar material for the seminars held at U of A and SAIT each year, and putting some final touches on a “Career Opportunities & Path” pamphlet (below) which will be available to distribute at educational institute open houses, etc. We are also very excited about developing a student poster competition for future conferences and other means of promoting more student attendance and participation in the annual conference.
The ESC has been an on-going supporter of the “Pressure Equipment Inspection Technician” program being developed at the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society. The program is intended to train qualified immigrants and potentially other under employed individuals for entry-level inspection technician positions within the Canadian pressure equipment industry.
The ESC also has a list of other potential value adding initiatives just waiting for resources and time to help advance the safety and integrity of pressure equipment in all aspects of the industry.
