The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) was established in 1919 to promote greater safety to life and property through uniformity in the construction, installation, repair, maintenance, and inspection of pressure equipment. NBBI members are chief boiler and pressure vessel inspectors representing most states and all provinces of North America and major cities in the United States. The Upstream Chief Inspectors Association (UCIA) is an organization made up of 36 upstream or midstream based oil and gas companies with a mandate to ensure safety, reliability, and integrity of pressure equipment through open dialogue between representatives of owner companies and jurisdictions.
